How to occupy the kids

So, the schools have broken up for the summer holidays and if you've got kids the big problem will be finding ways to keep them occupied. So here are some suggestions...

• Take them and their friends to the cinema and treat them to popcorn and ice cream - or, if you're thinking of spending slightly less money, an all expenses paid trip round the world

• Take them to an arts and crafts workshop, where they can paint pictures and make things - and once they get good at it, get them to paint the spare room at home and put up some shelves

• Take them to a theme park - show them all the excitement of queuing and handing over large sums of money, skills they'll later need when they have to start using banks

• Take them go karting - if they develop a love for high speed driving, they become the next Lewis Hamilton. Or George Michael.

• Or best of all... Take them to the zoo - stick them in one of the cages, and leave them there for six weeks.
