Backing the Bid

Wire FM is proud to announce... We’re backing the bid!

Wire FM is officially backing Warrington to become the UK City of Culture 2021 – and we need your support.

Pick up your ‘backing the bid’ car sticker from the Wire FM Street team or one of our collection points – including The Golden Square Shopping Centre Information desk and Warrington Market – and display it WITH PRIDE!

Then make sure you’re listening every morning from Monday 10th April for 4 weeks at 8am to Baz Todd – if he reads out your car registration, call in within the hour to claim your prize – from gym memberships to theatre tickets!

Official submissions for the accolade take place this month - with the likes of Stoke and Sunderland also vying for the title.

As part of the campaign Wire FM is offering people free car stickers to show their support. Stickers can be collected from the stations street team or from the information desk at the Golden Gate Shopping Centre and Warrington Market.

Speaking to Wire Councillor Dan Price who is chair of the bid said, "We've got some big announcements coming over the coming weeks."

"One thing we are nervous of is competitors robbing our ideas so we're not putting it all out at once but there are some very exciting announcements ahead."

Hull is the current and second ever UK City of Culture and it's thought over £60 Million pounds has been generated for the local economy as a result

Councillor Price added; "We are part of the Northern Powerhouse, we are building this around the fact that we are most credible, we have a track record of delivery and we will be able to pull in 5.6 Million people who live within 45 minutes"

A shortlist of the bidding areas will be announced in the summer before the winning area is announced in December.
