Teenagers abuse staff at Wigan McDonalds

Police are investigating an incident at McDonalds in Wigan.

At about 10.30pm on Tuesday 10 April 2012, police were called to McDonalds on Standishgate to reports of disorder.

Officers arrived to find approximately 100 young people inside and outside of the restaurant.

Some of these customers verbally abused staff, some climbed over the counter and stole food, others threw rubbish and food across the restaurant.

An investigation has been launched and officers are reviewing CCTV and other footage.

Sergeant Nicola Williams from Wigan Neighbourhood Policing Team said, "A large number of teenagers behaved in a wholly unacceptable way, the staff working in McDonalds were subjected to abuse of an indecent nature and were terrified."

"It is not acceptable to behave like this in a family restaurant.  We have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and bring them to justice."

"If you were in Wigan on Tuesday night and witnessed the incident or have any information, please contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101, the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or e mail wigan.apt@gmp.police.uk.
