Chaos on Chester Road in Warrington

Road closed after four car pile up

There has been a major accident on the A56 Chester Road in south Warrington this morning.

It is closed in both directions between Runcorn Road and the Daresbury Express Way.

Both police and ambulance are now on the scene.

The council's highways team have put a diversion in place via the A49 however this route is still affected by a one lane closure following a sewer collapse in Stockton Heath.

It is expected the road will be closed for the rest of the morning.

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes if possible.

Cheshire Police have also given us this statement..

 

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious collision in Warrington.

At 8.05am this morning police were called to Chester Road in Higher Walton following reports of a collision involving 3 cars and a van.

Police, fire and the air ambulance are currently at the scene. Two people were trapped inside two of the vehicles − they have now been cut free from the vehicles. There are no further details of any injuries at this time.

Road closures are currently being put in place and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
