A hand grenade's been destroyed in a controlled explosion after being pulled out of the Mersey at Central Park by a fisherman last night.
Nearby properties were evacuated for a time while bomb disposal officers worked at the scene.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said:
"Officers have attended the Centre Park estate after the discovery of a hand grenade, it was pulled from the River Mersey by a fisherman.
"Nearby premises were evacuated by officers and some road and path closures were put in place.
"Bomb disposal have now attended and removed the hand grenade, it will be destroyed by controlled explosion on nearby waste land."
