Shortly before 3pm on Monday 9 April 2012, police were called to a wooded area behind Pennington Road, following reports of a body being found.
Officers attended and found the body of a man, who was badly burnt.
Detectives have launched inquiries, which are ongoing.
Detective Superintendent Jen Williams said: "Firstly, I want to stress that we are at the early stages of our inquiries.
"A team of detectives is now working to establish the identity of the man and investigate the full circumstances that led to his death.
"I know that residents will be alarmed by this incident, but I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is now taking place and there are extra patrols in the area.
"I would urge anyone who has information that can assist our inquiries to call us as soon as possible.”
