The incident took place on Sunday (20 May) between 3pm and 3.30pm.
The victim − a 76-year-old man − had parked his car in Morrison′s car park in Greenalls Avenue. The car was parked two rows behind the drop of zone at the front of the store.
He left his wallet containing a quantity of cash out of view but when he returned to his vehicle the wallet was missing along with his mobile phone and glasses.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to come forward.
PC Deborah Morgan, of Warrington South NPU, said: "We are currently following up a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this incident. The car park would have been busy with shoppers at the time and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to come forward."
Anyone with any information, which might assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 713 of 20 May.
