Runcorn is set to become one of the most important sites for Thai Buddhists in the UK.
A groundbreaking ceremony's taking place tomorrow at the former Waterloo Hotel, which is now used as a temple by members of the religion, to consecrate it as only the second site in the country where Thai Buddhist monks can be ordained.
Tony Collacott from the temple said
"It means that we would be allowed to ordain Buddhist monks within the hall and it will also provide a focus point for the community and a resource for the community as it's open to third party users"
The centre in Runcorn will become the biggest outside of London.
"Runcorn was a surprising choice for many" Mr Collacott said
"We have been welcomed by the community in such a fantastic manor, local people, the council they have been very supportive and we are delighted to be there."
