Ryan Atkins scores a hat-trick

A superb hat trick by Ryan Atkins helped Warrington to turn the game and keep the pressure on Wigan at the top of Super League after Hull had established a shock 10 point lead in the opening 20 minutes.

Tony Smith was able to give Michael Monaghan his first game since suffering knee damage against St Helens in March but unavailable, among others, were Ben Westwood, recovering from a hernia operation,  Brett Hodgson, Simon Grix and captain Adrian Morley.

Following three games without a win, Hull were without their injured hooker Danny Houghton but were able to bring in Aaron Heremaia, the former New Zealand Warriors player who was injured in a pre-season match, for his Super League debut off the bench.

Kirk Yeaman crossed in the sixth minute after the visitors had been given an extra set of six tackles near the Wolves line.

Danny Tickle had failed with all his practice shots at goal in the warm-up and couldn't add the extras.

Hull looked as if they didn't need them three minutes later when Tom Briscoe steamed along the left flank like an express train to send Willie Manu over. Tickle was successful this time with his kick and it was 10-0 to Hull.

Just one minute later Warrington hit back in style when Atkins charged down a Hull kick, regathered the ball and raced 30 metres to score. Gareth O'Brien's goal cut the deficit to four-  the final score 40-18
