Widnes Man Gives Something Back

Friday, January 27th 2012 10:18

A man from Widnes has set up his own kitchen to help people as more are forced on the poverty line.

Andrew Horabin runs ACS Building and Maintenance and is heavily involved with Widnes Vikings.

A few years ago he experienced financial troubles which he says opened his eyes into how difficult things can be. Over Christmas he told his wife he wanted to go and feed the homeless, then she suggested it isn't just at Christmas time people need help - it's every day and so Andrew decided to set up his own kitchen catering for anyone who needs help in the local community in Widnes.

Every Thursday he takes the day off work and heads down to the Eat and Meet Cafe on Tanhouse Lane in Widnes next to Waterfront Motors.

From 2-4pm every week there'll be a variety of warm dishes people can eat free of charge - this week it was Scouse, next week Spaghetti Bolognaise is on the menu, accompanied by tea and coffee and peppermint creams made by his daughter.

Andrew says it's open to anyone who just needs somewhere to go for a few hours to get fed and warm - anyone from young people to the elderly and all walks of life are very welcome.
