Send a message Listen LiveFound in Norris Green, days after murder of Joe Thompson
A mother and her son have been arrested by detectives investigating an incident where shots were fired at a house in Norris Green, Liverpool on Monday night. The 38-year-old women and 17-year-old teenage boy were arrested after Matrix officers found a loaded sawn-off shotgun and a live 9mm round of handgun ammunition at an address in Holmrook Road on Friday. A search warrant was executed at the house by officers investigating a shooting on Monday night in nearby Haselbeech Crescent in which a window on the front of a house there was shot at by a gunman on a motorbike. A 19-year-old local man who has already been arrested in connection with that shooting, in which no-one was injured, has been kept in custody for an extended period following a successful application by Merseyside Police to Liverpool City Magistrates Court. The arrests follow extensive and high-profile police activity in the Norris Green area following the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old local man in the early hours of Wednesday. No-one has been arrested in connection with the murder of Joseph Thompson, however a murder investigation by the Major Incident Team remains ongoing. DCI Lee Turner from the Force's anti-gun and gang crime Matrix unit, said: "These are significant seizures. Sawn-off shotguns are lethal weapons and we are pleased we have taken one out of circulation so that it cannot be used by criminals to wreak havoc in their own community. The police will continue to work with, and on behalf of, decent, law abiding residents to take as many guns and the criminals who use them off our streets."
