Every Wednesday afternoon in July and August the Careers for Young People Centre is hosting an opportunity to find out more about Apprenticeships and what they offer.

Backed by the National Apprenticeship Service and local training providers it’s a great opportunity to have free advice, talk to apprenticeship advisers and look at the options open to you!

If you come along to the Careers for Young People Centre and speak to an adviser and register for Apprenticeship vacancies at the Centre you could enter a prize draw for an iPad mini!

An Apprenticeship is a way for young people and adult learners to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification and a real future.

Why are Apprenticeships important?

Apprenticeships deliver for a whole range of industries and occupations not just the traditional craft areas and some Higher Apprenticeships are at Foundation Degree level.

Apprenticeships provide high quality training for young people and adult learners allowing them to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification and a real future.

Apprenticeships deliver for employers, young people, adults and the economy.

  • Over 500,000 people started an Apprenticeship in 2011/12.
  • 125,000 were 16 to 18 year-olds.
  • 85% of apprentices stay in employment after finishing their Apprenticeship.
  • 64% stay with the same employer.

Apprentices can earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification and a real future.

  • Intermediate, Advanced and Higher (degree level) Apprenticeships are available.
  • 1500 occupations have been mapped to an Apprenticeship.
  • Nationally up to 17,000 Apprenticeship vacancies are available on-line at any one time.
  • One million on-line applications were made in 2012.
