“I don’ t like writing about love and boys as that’ s not very me,” says London’ s future pop star KStewart. “I’ m such a big fan of Christina Aguilera and Destiny’ s Child because of their lyrics. They’ re about empowering women, and they’ re really sassy and full of attitude.”
Already hailed as this generation's answer to Mariah Carey by ID magazine, KStewart is influenced by the late 90s / early 2000s era of classic divas – artists who possess the vocal gift to complement their independent spirit. North Londoner Kate is as strong-willed as the best of them: “I’ve always known what I wanted, so I don’ t take any, basically.”
Of course, a great voice is nothing without the songs to match and Kate has those in abundance. Her solo career was kick-started when a session with Karma Kid yielded ‘ Tell Me About That’ , ‘ Speechless’ and ‘ Close Enough’ : a triple-shot of woozy, chilled-out R&B that saw many herald her as a vital new talent.
