Golden Gates Reopened As Thousands Take Part In Warrington Walking Day

Thousands of people are taking to the streets of Warrington for the annual Walking Day

The rededication ceremony was led by the Rector of Warrington, Revd Paul Wilson. which was then followed by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Wendy Johnson who lead a rededication prayer and blessing.

Warrington Brass Band then played an original fanfare, ‘The Gates’, composed especially for the event before the Procession began at 10:30am making its way through the town centre.

The newly restored Golden Gates were also reopened.  The council has worked with international engineering, design and consultancy company, Ramboll, and Hall Conservation Limited to carry out the specialist restoration works.

This year’s Walking Day is the 124th anniversary of when the gates were originally presented to Warrington on Walking Day 28 June 1895.
