Travellers who unlawfully set up camp on land in Latchford have been ordered to leave.
The council has confirmed officers visited the group at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School, on Grammar School Road, and served a section 77 notice.
Around £2 million has been set aside in the Labour-run council’s capital budget for a transit site for travellers, which Town Hall bosses believe will reduce the number of costly unlawful encampments in the borough.
It would allow officers to direct groups to the land.
Hundreds of pieces of land have been assessed but none have been deemed to be deliverable by councillors so far.
It was intended that a shortlist would be finalised by January 2017 but the matter has faced major delays.
But council leader Cllr Russ Bowden insists a designated transit site is the ‘right answer’ for the borough.
