A police officer has been assaulted by a man on the M56 near Lymm.
The man was walking on the hard shoulder at junction 9 eastbound this morning.
Traffic was held as officers tried to restrain the man who was fighting with police and highway patrols.
All lanes have now reopened to traffic.
A statement from Cheshire Police reads:
At 7.17am on Thursday 4 July police received reports of a man walking along the hard shoulder of the M56 eastbound between junction 9 to junction 8. Officers safely located the man and he has been arrested. Lane one and two were closed as a precaution.
