Lorry driver in serious condition after M62 crash

A lorry driver's in a serious but stable condition in hospital following a crash on the M62 last night.

Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway around Junction 8 at Burtonwood following reports of a collision involing two lorries around 11.00am on Tuesday morning.

The motorway was closed much of the afternoon whilst recovery work took place

Highways Agency traffic officers from the outstation at Newton-le-Willows worked at the scene to free drivers trapped behind the incident, by turning them around on the carriageway and sending them back to junction 8 where they can leave the motorway network or join the eastbound M62.    

The motorway was fully opened again around 19.00pm on Tuesday night. 

Police are appealing for anyone who witnesses the accident to come foward.
