The thief distracted his victim with a map as she took her shopping into her home
At about 2:30pm on Saturday 4 November 2017 a couple in their 70s arrived home in Broad Lane after a shopping trip.
As they were getting out of their car on the drive, they were approached by a man who spoke very little English. The man was holding a map and appeared to be asking for directions.
After helping the victims carry some of their shopping into the garage the man appeared to be leaving, but had followed them inside and was in the kitchen, again holding the map out before laying it down on the worktop.
After a few minutes the man picked up the map and left. Almost immediately the woman noticed her purse missing from off the worktop.
The suspect is described as being of Asian origin, about 50-years-old and 5ft 4ins tall. He had short dark hair which was greying and was wearing a dark coat to just below the waist and dark grey jogging shorts.
DC Neil Radley said:
“Fortunately the purse only contained a small amount of money and the bank cards were cancelled almost straight away.
