Runcorn Youngster To Model In New York Fashion Week After Being Told She May Never Walk

12-year-old Katie has cerebral palsy and has been offered the once in a life time opportunity to be a model in the show.

Back in 2015 Katie underwent a nine hour surgery where surgeons performed ten operations, five on each leg at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

After intense physio and rehabilitation the youngster can now move much more freely with the help of her walker after spending most of her life in a wheelchair.

Now Katie, has been given an amazing opportunity after being scouted in London Fashion Week.

If the 12-year-old appears in the show in New York she will be the first child with cerebral palsy to walk the catwalk.

Katie's mum, Clare Millerick was overwhelmed when her daughter was asked to go to New York: "When she was born we were told she may never walk and then after this big operation, she's just been training herself again to walk.

"From going from being told she may never walk to having this major surgery to coming out the other side - from going to London Fashion Week to then being asked to walk in New York Fashion Week!"

However, for Katie's dreams to come true her family need to raise £5,000 to travel to the USA in September.

"She does understand that it's not something we could stretch to, she's been really good, she understands that we might not get the money together.

"She also said if we end up with too much money can we give what's extra to Alder Hey for what they've done for me, which I thought was lovely."
